West Ham to Hackney (Olympic Park, London)

This project was very high profile in the development of Stratford in readiness for creating the infrastructure for the London Olympics Games in 2012.

JSM was appointed to install six 400kV cables along the full length of the 6 kilometres tunnel between West Ham and Hackney, transposing them at each of the joint bays. The operation was completed with the fixing and cleating of the cables onto previously installed steelwork.

JSM worked closely with the main contractor Prysmian to develop an effective methodology of introducing the cables in to the 30 metre deep shaft and pulling them into place in the 4 metre diameter tunnel.

JSM is proud of its innovations record and on this project our innovation was the introduction of a new method of cleating cable within the tunnel.

JSM also undertook full risk management and introduced night shift working to meet the tight timescales of the project. The works were completed on time and a budget and to the complete satisfaction of the client.
