Since inception in 1998 JSM have aspired to develop long term relationships with all clients. Together with the ethos of providing quality and competitively priced solutions have delivered a significant number of infrastructure projects for industry leading energy and communications companies across the UK.
JSM’s reputation within the utilities industry for delivery has enabled us to secure main contractor status with a number of clients throughout the fast communications and Electricity Supply Infrastructure sectors.
Whilst our core operations cover London and the South East, recent years have seen the business successfully expand geographically to the South West, the Midlands, the North of the UK and Wales
JSM own and operate its own vehicle fleet and plant ensuring full control, compliance and cost efficiencies whilst enabling fast deployment, mobilisation and flexibility.
Stuart as co-founder and Managing Director of JSM leads the strategic direction and the operational management of the Company. Stuart is a highly experienced Director with comprehensive business knowledge, management and budgetary skills. A creative thinker with sound leadership ability and a proven aptitude in commercial and strategic planning. With the JSM team he has focused on providing a service to meet client expectations, focusing on performance, quality, culture, customer service and legislative compliance. Stuart has worked at senior management level for over 20 years, and held Project Management positions since 1985. Stuart started his working life at 16 years old as a chain boy with John Lang Construction. Within 4 years had become a bonafide engineer, working for various contractors along the way on RC construction sites. In 1990, he joined a telecoms contractor at the very start of cable TV, and again within 4 years had become area manager for a UK civil engineering company specialising in fibre optic services delivery, M&N contractors. After securing a number of management jobs in contracting Stuart met John and Mark Scanlon in 1996. In 1998, Stuart and Mark and John Scanlon joined forces to deliver a £1.5m duct and drainage works scheme for the Croydon tram link and hence, JSM Construction Ltd. was formed.
John as a co-founding member of JSM is responsible for implementation of the company’s strategy and all matters relating to the operational performance of the business. John is well versed in overseeing and managing a number of major projects simultaneously. In-depth knowledge of programming, planning and monitoring works programmes, he provides proactive solutions to engineering challenges. John’s expertise in management and project delivery has been key to JSM’s growth. John left school well qualified in 1987 to work for Chelanville and CDL on various BT/Mercury civil engineering and fibre optic services contracts until 1994.1994 saw the formation of Scanlon Brothers working with various telecom companies supplying full plant, labour and materials. John then became one of the co-founders of JSM Construction Ltd. in 1998.
Mick joined JSM group in September 2009, as the SHEQ Director his main focus has been the implementation of JSM’s health, safety, environment and quality management systems along with maintaining compliance. Mick’s proactive management approach has gone a long way in ensuring that the company’s Integrated Management System is complied with along with ensuring that it consistently up to date and is compliant with UK legislation along with meeting the requirements of the company’s external registrations and schemes.
With over 35 years’ experience within the construction industry and over 20 years in the health & safety field, Mick is extremely knowledgeable and his vast experience and hands-on approach has been key to maintaining JSM’s clean health & safety record.
Mick started his career at 16 years old as a member of the civils team for a well-known London based Civil Engineering company before qualifying as a bricklayer. While working for different UK civil engineering companies Mick has made his transition into a SHEQ Advisor and subsequently SHEQ Manager overseeing various projects, including multi-million pound contracts for both the telecommunications and electrical industry.
Dave Fennessy joined JSM Group in 2009 as General Manager to help build the Telecommunications Division. Due to the rapid growth of the Telecommunications work streams at JSM Dave was promoted to Director where he assumed a more strategic role. His expertise and unique leadership style have been essential in helping JSM to expand and develop to meet increasing industry demands.
Commencing his career as a labourer, Dave successfully progressed into management fulfilling roles such as Supervisor, Project Manager and Operations Manager. With almost 30 years’ experience in Utilities Dave has worked on numerous high profile contracts within the power, telecoms and multi-utilities sectors, which has in turn provided him with the extensive knowledge that has been instrumental in the winning and retaining of frameworks and contracts with major telecommunications clients at JSM.
JSM works wholly as subcontractor, installing duct and cable into the highway for Tier 1 contractors
JSM started working towards becoming a full Tier 1 contractor whilst ramping down subcontracting work
JSM becomes a full Tier 1 contractor coinciding with delivering specialist services in ESI sector. Awarded first turnkey, design supply and install of a 132kV, £4.5M wind farm project in Devon, for a UK DNO
5yr Framework contracts signed with major telecommunication companies
Expansion into other specialist fields, fibre optic cable installation, splicing and oil filled cable maintenance
JSM secures services of fluid
filled cable leak detection specialist sub-contractor
JSM develops its Overhead Line (OHL) department
