JSM wins Gold Award at Considerate Contractor Street Works Scheme Awards 2019

May 18th, 2019

At this year’s Considerate Contractor Street Works Scheme Awards JSM picked up the Highly Commended Gold Award.

This award, granted by the City of London, is based on JSM’s overall performance over the past 12 months on projects carried out in and around the City of London.

The Gold Award recognises that JSM have consistently exceeded the high requirements set by the Considerate Contractor Scheme’s Code of Good Practice with JSM exhibiting an “excellent final quarter” that was aided by their “dedication and commitment to the Scheme”.

This recognition demonstrates the pride JSM takes in their work, the awareness they have of the needs of the local public and the potential impact their works have on the surrounding environment and community

By working alongside the Considerate Contractor Scheme, JSM aim to raise the general standards of works and to have the condition and safety of the City’s streets and pavements improved for the benefit of everyone living, working or just travelling through the Square Mile.

JSM does not take their position in the industry and community lightly and year after year it is ensured that the health & safety of staff, stakeholders and the local public remain a top priority.

JSM helps to ‘Keep Britain Tidy’

May 7th, 2019

This Spring JSM took part in the Great British Spring Clean in an effort to help clean up the local communities of Potters Bar and Barking.

Over two days in April a group of staff members rolled up their sleeves and armed themselves with litter pickers and rubbish bags to tackle the local green spaces of Barking Park and King George V Recreation Ground that often get abused and become litter-filled when the weather starts to warm up.

Hazim Bidiwi JSM’s Environmental Advisor says ‘this project was dear to the SHEQ team because it shows the responsibility we are taking for the environment. Also it contributed to our yearly environmental, sustainability and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) objectives.’

The Great British Spring Clean Campaign was put together by the ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ charity and ran from 22 March – 23 April in partnership with community organisations, businesses and the government. This year has proven to be the biggest Spring Clean yet with a total of 4,308 tonnes of rubbish collected nationwide

JSM took on this project as part of their commitment to helping the environment and giving back to the local communities JSM are based in.

Thank you to everyone who took part, especially the SHEQ department who rallied together to help JSM make a difference.

JSM gains ISO 45001 registration

February 14th, 2019

JSM gained registration to the recognised OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety) back in 2010, this Standard is now being replaced by the newly recognised IS0 45001 Standard. All companies have up until 2021 to migrate over to the new standard. We are pleased to announce that JSM is one of a few companies within our industry that has successfully migrated over to ISO 45001 following four days of audits over December 2018 and January 2019.

The OHSAS 18001 is a standard for Occupational Health and Safety; which provides a framework to identify, control and decrease the risks associated with health and safety within the workplace.

The new standard ISO 45001 will work in conjunction with JSM’s current ISO 9001, 14001 and 27001 Standards. Additional factors the standard will look into is the consultation and participation of non-managerial workers, control of subcontractors and mental health and wellbeing.

Mick Barrett says “The rapid implementation of ISO 45001 is a testament to JSM’s commitment to Health and Safety.”
