On 21st May 2025, a team of dedicated JSM Group Ltd employees rolled up their sleeves and volunteered their time and energy to support the Ealing Beaver Project – a pioneering urban rewilding initiative. Working alongside project co-founder Elliot Newton and Urban Rewilding Officer Digby Wheeler, the team contributed to vital habitat maintenance and public access improvements at the site.
The day began with the restoration of an overgrown access path. Using tools such as bowsaws, loppers, spades, and digging forks, the team cleared excess vegetation and encroaching trees. The aim was to create a safer, more accessible route for the public to reach the beaver ponds, while also discouraging use of unofficial and potentially damaging pathways.
In addition to the pathway, two JSM volunteers went above and beyond by donning chest waders and stepping into the water to remove litter and debris from the beaver enclosure. Items such as shopping trolleys, drink cans, and overgrown vegetation were cleared to ensure the water remained clean and safe for the resident beavers. While beavers are naturally adept at managing their environment – a fascinating fact we learned during our time on site – heavier waste items require human intervention.
By the end of the day, the team had successfully created a welcoming new pathway for local residents and improved the water quality within the beaver habitat. It was a rewarding and inspiring experience for all involved, and we look forward to one day returning to continue supporting this incredible project.
“It was fantastic to have the brilliant team from JSM join us at Paradise Fields, home of the Ealing Beaver Project. Their hard work made a real impact; from building a vital new footpath to help us manage our ‘beaver deceiver’ water control system, to clearing reeds and removing trolleys from the pond to improve beaver viewing. We even explored the site together, sharing insights into beaver ecology and their incredible activities. A huge thank you to JSM for their generous support. We hope to see you again on more rewilding projects across London, helping nature and people thrive together” – Elliot Newton, Co-Founder.
JSM Group Ltd. chose to volunteer for this initiative not only because of its environmental significance but also because of its strong community impact. Since 2021, JSM has proudly contributed over 351 hours of volunteer work, a testament to our ongoing commitment to making a meaningful difference.
