Role Description

An experienced Telecoms/Utilities planner is required, to provide a planning and design service for carrying out functions primarily related to Telecom / Utilities construction street works projects. An ideal opportunity for aspiring project managers to learn the full life cycle of a project from feasibility, through to as-built completion. Providing all aspects of planning requirements to the operational project teams.

 

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Experience in telecoms fibre and civils design preferred.
  • Experience of BT Openreach Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) and its web portal is desirable.
  • SSSTS qualified to compile Risk Assessments and Method Statements preferred
  • Able to demonstrate ability to communicate and maintain good relationships with Clients, Local Authorities, Police and the contract labour.
  • Willing to travel to sites throughout the UK mainland.
  • PC literate; fully conversant with standard Microsoft software to intermediate level
  • Excellent written communication skills for reports and compiling scope of works.
  • Able to build positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, clients and Local Authority Officers.
  • Clean Driving Licence

Principle Duties & Accountabilities

The successful candidate will be working in the Planning Department predominantly planning and designing telecom routes, customer connections, diversionary works and network upgrades in the telecoms and power fields. Projects will vary for small customer connections n existing networks, new fibre routes through existing BT duct routes (PIA) and major new route builds involving multiway duct routes crossing special engineering difficulties such as bridges and railways.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Route planning from feasibility stage through to implementation on new build, diversionary works and maintenance projects.
  • Creating registers of Special Engineering Difficulties (SEDs) and liaising with necessary authorities to agree working methods and procedures and compile all documents necessary for permissions.
  • Preparing Job Packs from site surveys for preparation of private wayleaves documents.
  • Production of paving schedules from site surveys
  • Cable pack design -Straight Line Diagrams, Public Infrastructure Access Documentation.
  • Review new client routes involving BT Openreach PIA routes, issue route drawings for survey.
  • Monitor and collate as built information from site from GPS recording and assist with compiling as built data for issue to clients to close out the project.
  • Collate information for work packs at the start of project and client handback at project close.
  • Production of Method Statements and Risk Assessments
  • Liaising with structure and asset owners to agree methodology and compile all documents necessary for permissions.
  • Preparing works programmes, updating and inputting information to MS Project.
  • Monitor progress and update programmes as required.
  • Compile weekly / monthly reports for issue to JSM directors and clients
  • Updating Fibre Allocation schedules and Connectivity Diagrams
  • Assist in other aspects of the department necessary for the successful completion of a project.
  • Following the company health, safety and quality practices and procedures
  • Liaison with Highways Authorities, Clients and their clients, Utilities Representatives and internal colleagues.
