JSM were appointed by a major telecoms client to construct a large client connection project which extends beyond 50km in total length. The route designed was from Tooting to Pulsant’s Data Centre, Croydon. The route incorporates traditional open cut civils work, horizontal drilling to minimise disruption including some major Traffic Management challenges.
Forming part of the route we installed 144f in 7km of a 2-way sub-duct in the Thames Water sewer network using blown fibre techniques to both reduce cost and to overcome some significant Special Engineering Difficulties (SED’s) such as tramways, rail infrastructure and Traffic Management challenges.
To complete Phase 1 and using additional cabling methods, splicing, testing and commissioning of network infrastructure to enable hand over to clients such as Pulsant, O2/Telefonica and DRT Data Centres.
As a continuation of Phase 1, Phase 2 forms 37km of the total route and runs from Croydon via Redhill to Crawley consisting of some significant engineering challenges to overcome to deliver this project within very tight timescales, to adhere to working restrictions imposed by the Local Authorities. We were asked to work in collaboration with other service contractors who had booked road space in advance of JSM. This we overcame by agreeing with the Local Authority that we install 6km at night. If this was not achieved then there would be an inherent delay until April 2015. In the first 4 weeks we have installed 13km consisting of 2 x excavating teams and 1 x HDD team. We also gained agreement with the Local Authority thanks to our close working relationships with them to work over the Christmas holiday period securing road closures to provide programme assurity to our client.
144f will be installed, providing key connections to blue chip clients such as Bank Of America, Merrill Lynch and DRT.
